Offshore Financial Services Another sector likely to present opportunities through all the swings and turns of the US economy, is financial services. The reason for this is also demographic. As mentioned previously, the baby boomers are retiring and will continue to do so for the next 20 years. This phenomenon bodes well for financial companies, as demand for pension services is likely to increase. The sector does face elements of uncertainty, however. The benefits of higher demand for financial services may be offset by falls on equity markets, to which these stocks are more sensitive than most. Offshore Financial Services & Technology Technology Technology stocks are generally accepted to be ‘the way forward’, although recent volatility indicates the markets cannot decide just how good they are. However, the current hype is likely to dissipate and investors will lose their enthusiasm for every internet start up which appears to be on to an original idea. The advantage of current volatility is that it is likely to separate the good from the bad and, a year or two on, only quality stocks will be left. When this shake out is complete, the sector will be a much safer environment for longer-term investment. Offshore Financial Services & Telecommunications Telecommunications The telecommunications industry provides the necessary tools for an increasingly internet reliant ‘new’ economy. As well as the internet boom, deregulation has led to a dynamic, competitive environment in the US , Europe and Asia. Developments such as the growth of mobile telephony, and the general rush of companies to go online, mean this sector is likely to be a long-term winner.
