Retail Investment Opportunities

The world’s best-known blue chip stocks can now be tracked on a new global sector-based index, offering new retail investment opportunities.
The Dow Jones Sector Titans Indexes, launched last month, operates across eighteen market sectors, concentrating on some of the most actively traded stocks on the market.

Benchmark indices have typically been constructed on a country basis and then amalgamated into regions or sectors. However, investors are increasingly moving away from bonds and into equities and are shifting from domestic to regional and sector investing.

Retail Investment Opportunities & Dow Jones

Dow Jones expects investment managers to reflect this trend by designing global sector products replicating its indexes. “Global sector investing is getting more and more important as many investors now realise that the effects of industry and market-sector events may often outweigh the effects of country-specific events,” said Dow Jones Index president David Moran.

Support for the new indexes has come from Deutsche Bank. “Investors now require more than just equity exposure - they want global diversification within their portfolios,” said Nizam Hamid, head of portfolio, index and futures research at Deutsche Bank.

Retail Investment Opportunities - The Key Features

“The key features of the indexes - the liquidity of the underlying names; capping of sectors to make them investable, the use of free-float and familiar large cap names - makes the index the natural home for the retail investor.”
Each of the 18 indexes comprises 30 stocks, which covers at least 50 per cent of the market capitalisation of its underlying sector, with each component capped at
10 per cent.
