Partners Capital, a leading global private investment office with over $7bn AUM, has set up a Hong Kong office to increase its access to Asian investment opportunities. The office will be headed up by Janie Chen, who is Mainland Chinese, and moves to Hong Kong from Partners Capital’s London office, and Charlotte Plowman, who joins from SAIL Advisors, and is formerly of Goldman Sachs. Both are SFC licensed Responsible Officers.Stan Miranda, founder and CEO of Partners Capital, said: “Our clients rely on us to unearth the best investment opportunities in the world. We currently have more than $1bn invested in Asia, but with the region playing an ever increasingly important role in defining the investment environment, we felt the need to expand our research capabilities on the ground in Asia.” Founded in 2001, Partners Capital has offices London, Boston and Hong Kong, serving investment professionals, endowments, foundations and high net worth families globally. It provides wholly independent advice on asset allocation and best-of-breed manager selection across all asset classes and geographic markets. The firm has approximately 300 clients with over $7 billion US dollars AUM. The company employs 70 people across its London, Boston and Hong Kong offices. Endowments and foundations advised by Partners Capital include Oxbridge Colleges, The Royal Academy of Arts, The Cancer Research Institute, The Nobel Foundation, the Victoria & Albert Museum, prominent family offices and successful entrepreneurs. The Partners Capital management team consists of a highly experienced group of skilled investment specialists who work closely with its strategic shareholder group which includes Lord Rothschild, who chairs the Rothschild Investment Trust, and Sir Ronald Cohen, a co-founder of Apax Partners Worldwide. Lord Rothschild commented: “The establishment of an Asian presence is an important strategic milestone for Partners Capital and will further enhance its ability to source opportunities not seen by most firms in the industry”. Different from traditional investment consultants, Partners Capital is part of a new breed of “outsourced investment offices” and provides deep portfolio management expertise to complement their clients’ internal capabilities. The firm’s investment philosophy embraces many of the powerful diversification benefits of the “endowment model” and supports it with a more dynamic approach required to manage risk and deliver performance in changing market environments.
