The European Commission has granted temporary approval, under European Union state aid rules, to the recapitalisation of the Bank of Ireland by the Irish authorities of up to €5.35 billion.

On both sides of the Atlantic politicians are locked in crucial talks about how to address their respective debt positions that are an increasing threat to the global economic outlook. The stakes are high in both continents but whereas in the US there is a relatively simple decision to make (the two leading political parties need to agree to raise the government debt ceiling before the country technically defaults on 02 August), in Europe the situation is more complicated.

Dubai’s hotels have exceeded performance levels over the same quarters in 2009 and 2010 and the flexibility and consistent performance in Dubai’s hospitality industry and other sectors has helped to reduce economists’ fears of a double dip recession in the United Arab Emirates.
