Turks and Caicos Islands

Geography

A British Overseas Territory consisting of two groups of sub-tropical islands in the West Indies, the larger being Caicos Islands and the smaller Turks Islands, situated in the Atlantic Ocean southeast of Miami in the United States. The islands are geographically contiguous to the Bahamas.

Citizenship

In 2002, the British Overseas Territories Act restored full British citizenship status to all inhabitants of British Overseas Territories, including the Turks and Caicos.

• The Turks and Caicos Islands are divided into six administrative districts (two in the Turks Islands and four in the Caicos Islands), headed by district commissioners.
• The Turks and Caicos Islands are a British Overseas Territory
• Major sources of government revenue include Import Duties, Stamp Duties from Property Transactions, Work Permits and Residency Fees and Accommodation Tax.
