Offering a wide range of tourist attractions, châteaux galore and a taste of unspoilt rural France, this beautiful region still offers excellent value for money and has plenty of appropriately priced property on offer. Once known as the playground for the kings of France (when France still had a king!) some also called it the garden of France as the Loire area produced not only wonderful wines but also much of the country’s fruit and veg. Seafood is the basis of many staple dishes, whereas no meal is complete without a sprinkling of Guérande salt and a glass of Muscadet. Châteaubriant is a stunning town of which its château is the focus. Formerly built as a fortress on the original Brittany-France border, it possesses all the charm of the Renaissance era. A little further north is the medieval town of La Guerche de Bretagne which offers a lively weekly street market. Within easy reach is the town of Laval, which sits on the banks of the river Mayenne and is famous for its Christmas lights. The city of Rennes, capital of Brittany, offers all amenities. To the south, Angers is ever popular with tourists who flock to visit its stunning château and wonderful flower gardens. The château houses the famous apocalypse tapestries. Nantes and Le Mans are also close by. Head South West to the Atlantic coast, the pinnacle of which is the ever elegant, überchic La Baule, and you will find sandy beaches and designer shops galore. The battles between the Bretons and French have left their mark. This is a culturally diverse area where the four départements of Mayenne, Loire Atlantique, Ille et Villaine and Maine et Loire meet, each having a very distinct identity. Well, the above may well be a good advert to encourage you to visit this area, but why should you take the plunge and buy? In times of economic instability, it is natural to be cautious. Therefore, any investment you make needs to be a considered one. This area offers some spectacular bargains. It has not been prone to wild fluctuations in price, and instead offers a more stable investment.
