Montenegro, known as the jewel of the Dalmatian Coast is beginning to steal the limelight somewhat as its economy, tourist and property market begins to sparkle.

The country is certainly one of the fastest growing tourist attractions in the region and has for many years been overshadowed by its neighbour Croatia.

Existing attractions to Montenegro are of a both cultural and historical nature including walking, climbing and wild life holidays and water sports interests.

The sailing and windsurfing in this region is possibly the best in the eastern Mediterranean. Sailing in particular is very popular with the British, with over one thousand islands to visit along the length of the Dalmatian coast.

Montenegro is benefiting from the economy airlines which as of May 2006, started flying into Croatias Dubrovnik airport, only a short distance from the Montenegran border.

The increase in flights not only means that the number of visitors will rise, but there will also be an even more active rental market for properties in and near to the historic City of Dubrovnik, including the Montenegran coast.

Plans are already taking place in Montenegro for the development of marinas and associated property in the near future, with growth expected to be similar to that of Croatia. There would of course be further gains if Montenegro were to join the EU, with strong capital appreciation likely and a rapidly growing rental market.

Property is clearly one of the growth markets in Montenegro and offers investors the chance to diversify their portfolios to include property that can generate significant returns on capital and create a valuable contribution to pensions and childrens wealth.
