New fixed-rate offshore bonds

Northern Rock Guernsey is offering a new range of fixed-rate bonds, paying healthy rates of interest. The Offshore Fixed Rate Bonds range guarantee a minimum return of 5.15 per cent on an opening balance of 10,000.

The terms are one, two or three years. Bond holders can choose to have their interest paid annually or monthly. The monthly rate is 0.30 per cent below the gross annual rate. Additional deposits (1000 minimum) can be made up to a maximum of 5 million.

There are 60, 90 and 120-day interest penalties on early withdrawals on the one, two and three year bonds respectively.

With very few normal deposit accounts paying over five per cent on deposits of 10,000, these Northern Rock bonds look like good value if you dont mind tying your capital up for the terms offered. And if you believe interest rates will not go up substantially in the mean time.
