Geoff Cooke, the Chief Executive of Jersey Finance, has dismissed the rumours that the government will impose an offshore bank tax as purely speculation.
Cook claims the proposed tax has “no basis in fact,” and he claims that the island’s financial industry has never engaged in talks with the UK government with regard to such measures. Jersey has no intention of adopting such a line of action, he added.
Cook welcomes the recently announced review of crown dependencies and overseas territories as he believes Jersey already has excellent standards of regulation. The island has more than sufficient adequacy in terms of transparency, and he supports the worldwide drive towards higher standards in this respect.
